Western Metro is an extension of the Helsinki metro to Espoo. The first phase, consisting of 8 stations (14 km), was opened in 2017, and the second phase, with 5 stations (7 km) opened in 2022. Länsimetro was Finland’s largest infrastructure project.
Louhintahiekka performed rock blasting and earthworks at Matinkylä, Urheilupuisto, Koivusaari, Niittykumpu, Kivenlahti, Finnoo, and Soukka stations. The rock blasting volume was approximately 320,000 m³.
Rock engineering included not only open-cut, shaft, and tunnel blasting but also reinforcement work, shotcreting, bolting, grouting, and wire sawing.
