Helen - Vuosaari bio energy heating plant

As part of its investment to carbon-neutrality, Helen constructed a bio energy heating plant in Vuosaari that optimizes energy efficiency and captures waste heat from flue gases. The 260 MW bio energy heating plant was a 250 million euro investment by Helen and supplies a quarter of Helsinki’s district heat.

Louhintahiekka carried out earthworks for the entire plant as well as part of the foundation and concrete structure construction.

The project involved more than 300,000 m³ of cutting, excavation and filling as well as pipeworks including district heating piping.

We completed several demanding concrete structures, most notably a 50-meter-high concrete structure for the boiler area stair tower. This work utilized climbing formwork technology, enabling safe and efficient construction at height.
