Louhintahiekka carried out two significant sub-projects in the construction of the E18 Hamina–Vaalimaa motorway.
The E18 Hamina–Vaalimaa project involved the construction of a new 32-kilometer-long motorway in Eastern Finland and related road arrangements. The project completed in March 2018, was the final part of the E18 motorway that runs across Finland from Turku to the eastern border.
The project included the construction of arrangements for heavy traffic in Vaalimaa. In addition, improvements were made to pedestrian and bicycle paths, and new ones were constructed.
Louhintahiekka's work on the site involved the construction of a new waiting area for heavy traffic, known as the truck park, as well as being responsible for the construction of the motorway’s substructures and mass transfer from Ravijoki to Virojoki (distance approximately 12 km).
The project required demanding and deep soil replacement and large-scale mass transfers. The schedule and quality requirements were strict. The work included 700,000 m³ of cutting, 600,000 m³ of soil replacement, 1,800,000 m³ of embankment fillings, and 1,100,000 m³ of rock loading.
The project was completed ahead of schedule.
