Louhintahiekka completed the Tram 8 street works in Helsinki city centre.
Tram 8 street works was a renovation project along the route of tram line 8 in Helsinki, extending from Töölö to Kallio district, where streets Helsinginkatu, Caloniuksenkatu, and Runeberginkatu were comprehensively refurbished, both above and below the surface.
The project created better conditions for moving around by tram, on foot, and by bike. The work included the rebuilding of tram lines, modifications to roadways and pedestrian pathways, replacement of street structural layers, and stonework (curbstones, paving areas).
In addition, underground infrastructure, such as water and sewer pipes, cables, district heating, and natural gas networks, as well as street surface structures, lighting, traffic lights, and pedestrian crossings, were renewed.
Among other improvements, the project included the construction of four kilometres of new bike lanes, 2,5 kilometres of tram tracks, and the renewal of 1,600 meters of water supply lines, 2,000 meters of wastewater sewers, and 1,800 meters of stormwater sewers.
