Itä-Skanssi is a diverse, attractive area designed to operate based on sustainable development principles and will accommodate approximately 2,200 residents. The Skanssi area is located on the border between Turku and Kaarina, about 4 kilometers from the city centers of both.

The contract awarded to Louhintahiekka includes the streets and water supply infrastructure of the Itä-Skanssi zoning area, as well as large, high-quality parks as per the zoning plan. These include Skanssi stream with its stormwater basins, park trails, and high-quality wooden bridges crossing the stream. The area will also feature recreational and performance spaces, fitness and sports facilities, a playground, and a pump track for cycling.

– "This is a demanding project that includes several phases requiring the specialized expertise of Louhintahiekka, such as the stabilization of Vallikatu and the piling of weight embankments and concrete structures in the sports park. We will also construct the Skanssi stream with its retaining walls and weirs. The project is fast-paced and requires strong project management to seamlessly coordinate all phases of work and the various stakeholders involved," says Aapo Lahtinen, CEO of Louhintahiekka.

The total value of the contract is €10.5 million. Work will begin in January 2025, right after Epiphany, and is scheduled to be completed by June 2027.
